Compassion Unlimited, Inc. Training Program offers courses, in partnership with The Traumatology Institute Canada, Inc. for Clinical Professionals (Social Workers, Psychologists, Mental Health Counselors, ARNPs, Psychiatrists, Marriage & Family Therapists) leading to the following certifications approved through the Academy of Traumatology Commission on Certification and Accreditation.


Traumatology Training Program

  1. Certified Field Traumatologist - To provide the training necessary to enable an individual to respond immediately to natural or human-caused disaster, to know what to do to lessen the negative impact caused by such crisis, and to arrange for additional resources as necessary to resolve the stress/trauma accompanying the crisis.

    • Traumatology 101: Early Intervention Field Traumatology Critical Incident Stress Management-Basic (CISM-B)


  2. Certified (Clinical) Traumatologist - This certification prepares and identifies mental health professionals as experts working with trauma survivors in a clinical setting. Students will learn all phases of assessment, planning, and treatment for survivors of trauma with this award-winning curriculum. Participants completing the courses below will become a Certified Traumatologist through the Academy of Traumatology Commission on Certification and Accreditation.

    • Critical Incident Stress Management-Basic (CISM-B)
    • Traumatology 202: Overview of Assessment & Interventions
    • Traumatology 203a: Overview of Clinical Standards of Trauma Care – Treating Traumatized Children & Cultural Competency
    • Traumatology 203b: Overview of Clinical Standards of Trauma Care – Family Systemic Traumatology
    • Traumatology 204: Tools for Trauma: A CBT Approach
    • Traumatology 206: Group Supervision


  3. Certified Compassion Fatigue Specialist - Participants who successfully complete the training will be certified as Compassion Fatigue Specialists and authorized to offer the Accelerated Recovery Program for Compassion Fatigue five- session treatment program as part of their clinical services. This training program not only allows participants to gain insight and confidence in using the techniques, but also has been shown to reduce their own symptoms of Compassion Fatigue through the training. The exercises are balanced with the presentation of research and theory that helps ensure the professional completes the training with a broad and rich understanding of compassion fatigue, including its symptoms, prevention, and treatment

    • Traumatology 207: Compassion Fatigue Specialist Course



Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress.

The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress has approved this curriculum, with the completion of one additional course (Traumatology 205: Resiliency & Recovery-- Group Treatment for Trauma Survivors) for certification. Professionals completing these requirements will be eligible to receive the AAETS designation of Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress (B.C.E.T.S.) as well as discounts on membership.

Community & Workplace Traumatology (Emergency Medical Professionals, Nurses, Human Resources Professionals, Executives and Managers, Clergy, Community Volunteers)

CCM & The Traumatology Institute Canada is pleased to announce this new program of courses for non-clinical professionals, paraprofessionals, and laypersons. Individuals completing this course of study will develop the knowledge and skills to respond to assist trauma survivors in their process of recovery. This program is ideal for human resource professionals who want to learn more about assisting employees and risk management associated with traumatic events. This curriculum is perfect for a family member or significant other of a trauma survivor. It is also useful for individuals wishing to volunteer for community trauma response programs.

  1. Certified Community & Workplace Traumatologist. - We are excited to announce this new training program and certification. The Community & Workplace Traumatology Curriculum is designed for paraprofessionals and laypersons who want to help in times of crisis and trauma. This program build on the Field Traumatology course to train participants in the skills and knowledge to assist trauma survivors recover from the effects of overwhelming events. This program is perfect for pre-hospital professionals, law enforcement officers, clergy, and community volunteers
